Production Update: From Argentina to the Birthplace of ODR

Filming for the upcoming documentary, Can ODR Change the World?, is moving at a rapid pace. As we continue to travel the globe—virtually and physically—to uncover the hidden story of the internet’s justice revolution, I’m thrilled to share some exclusive behind-the-scenes updates.

Just Wrapped: The View from Latin America

I just concluded the interview with Dr. Alberto Elisavetsky, the founder of ODR Latinoamérica. Alberto took me back to 2006, a time when proposing online mediation in Latin America was so controversial, he was seen as “crazy” for suggesting technology could help resolve human conflict. He’s now a leading voice on the subject on the continent.

Dr. Elisavetsky provided a powerful contrast to the US-centric view of ODR. While the Western world often views online conflict resolution as a matter of convenience, he explained that in Latin America, it’s a tool for social inclusion, especially when vast distances made ODR the only viable bridge for citizens to access justice. Lots of great insights in his segment.

Learn more about ODR’s story in Latin America and its current and future trends on the continent in the upcoming film.

Next Stop: Massachusetts

The journey continues this January as production heads to Massachusetts, specifically to Boston and Amherst to visit with Professors Ethan Katsh and Leah Wing, two consequential figures in the history of this field.

While Ethan is widely recognized as the “father” of ODR because of his early work since the 1990s, Leah now heads what many consider to be ODR’s birthplace: the National Center for Technology and Dispute Resolution (NCTDR) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Building the Global Narrative

These upcoming segments will be woven together with previously captured footage from Colin Rule, Daniel Rainey and Dr. Henry Murigi, PhD. More guests are forthcoming to give their perspectives and help tell the story of how ODR and related technologies are reshaping peacemaking around the world.
